To vigorously promote the spirit of model workers, the spirit of labor, and the spirit of craftsmanship, and to inspire health professionals across the city to learn from outstanding role models and work together to advance the capital’s health sector with high quality, the Beijing Municipal Health Commission successfully held the fourth cultural event for employees of the Beijing health system — the “Model Workers Leading the Way, Responsibility Upheld in Health Care” thematic performance — on October 20 at the Capital Library Theater. Representatives of newly selected national and municipal model workers and exemplary collectives for 2025; leaders from relevant departments of the National Health Commission and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions; and leaders from the Municipal Health Commission, the Municipal Federation of Trade Unions, the Municipal Office of Spiritual Civilization, and Beijing Radio & Television Station attended the event. More than 1,100 leaders, cadres, and staff from district health commissions, municipal hospitals, and institutions directly under the Municipal Health Commission gathered to witness this cultural feast created, directed, and performed entirely by medical workers across the system.

Fresh flowers honored the model workers; graceful dance showcased their elegance; and powerful singing celebrated their spirit of progress. The event opened with “A Century of Glory,” a musical tribute that revisited the radiance of history and expressed the medical workers’ enduring commitment to their original mission. Through four chapters — “Original Aspiration · Banner,” “Devotion · Protection,” “Craftsmanship · Dedication,” and “Unity · New Journey” — the performance employed a rich array of artistic forms, including choral singing, recitation, dance, stage drama, crosstalk, and musical theater. These presentations offered a three-dimensional portrayal of the noble spirit and contemporary demeanor of model workers in Beijing’s health system, paying high tribute to medical professionals who remain true to their mission, shoulder responsibility, and, guided by the spirit of model workers, continue to write remarkable chapters of compassion and excellence.

The dance drama “Glimmer Across the Land” used fluid choreography to reenact the moving story of Wei Wenbin of Beijing Tongren Hospital — a national model worker — and his team as they carried out the “Bright Journey” charity eye missions across more than twenty provinces and cities, bringing hope to millions. The musical recitation “Loyalty and Devotion” paid heartfelt tribute to the late Academician Wang Zhongcheng for his noble spirit. The narrative performance “Guardians at Heart and Hand” recounted the half-century dedication and legacy of Liu Shu’ai, recipient of the Florence Nightingale Medal. The stage drama “Disease Control Pioneers” vividly recreated the tense scenes of post-disaster epidemic prevention, educating the audience on flood-related disease control while highlighting the public health workers’ sense of duty in putting the greater good above personal interest. The choral piece “The Brightest Star in the Night Sky” used gentle melodies to symbolize pediatric medical workers as shining stars safeguarding children’s health. The choir’s performance of “Brave Hearts of Light” conveyed the courage and determination of psychiatric researchers confronting the unknowns of mental illness. Finally, the song-and-dance performance “Master Craftsmen of a Great Nation”expressed the craftsmanship spirit in the health sector with grand musical themes and dynamic choreography, driving the event to its climax.

The atmosphere at the venue was warm and enthusiastic, with continuous applause from the audience. Many staff representatives said that the event was not only a spectacular cultural experience but also a profound moral inspiration and motivational force. Looking ahead, they expressed their commitment to following the example of model workers, cultivating excellence in their roles, enhancing professional competence, and contributing with renewed enthusiasm and determination to the development of Healthy Beijing and the high-quality advancement of the capital’s health sector.
