On October 10, the Beijing Municipal Health Commission hosted the 2025 World Mental Health Day Beijing theme campaign, “Mental Health Care for All — Reading and Art for Mental Wellness,” at the Beijing Library.
At the event, performances of dance therapy and music therapy showcased the diversity of mental health services. The stage play “Lifeline in the Storm” conveyed the importance of timely intervention and mutual care in times of psychological crisis.
Four expert representatives jointly issued an initiative, calling on everyone to build a positive attitude toward life, pay more attention to their own emotions, listen to others with empathy, seek help proactively, and offer support with openness and kindness.
A “Collaborative Protection for Mental Health” ceremony was also held on-site. Representatives from different departments collectively painted a map of Beijing, symbolizing cross-sector collaboration to build a comprehensive mental health service network that covers all people and all stages of life — striving toward the goal of “Mental Health Care for All.”
During the World Mental Health Day period, the Commission also organized the 11th Vocational Skills Competition for Psychiatric Rehabilitation Patients, bringing together 23 teams and nearly 200 participants at Beijing Huilongguan Hospital. The competition showcased the fruitful results of integrated development in various rehabilitation services, including art therapy, daily living skills training, and vocational rehabilitation. In addition, a book sharing session will be held on October 11, where experts will share readings on mental health and discuss the unique power of reading in nurturing the mind.
In 2025, Beijing launched the “Year of Mental Health Services” initiative, focusing on improving systems, optimizing services, and enhancing quality and efficiency. Efforts include strengthening working mechanisms, innovating service models, and promoting coordinated development to comprehensively elevate the city’s mental health and psychiatric service capacity. Beijing continues to enhance its mental health service network — with psychiatric hospitals as the mainstay, general hospitals as support, and district-level and community-based mental health institutions asthe mainstay, and grassroots health service institutions as the foundation. The city is optimizing medical resource allocation and establishing “hand-in-hand” cooperation mechanisms between general and psychiatric hospitals, improving both accessibility and quality of care. The city is also advancing rescue and assistance policies for patients with severe mental disorders, providing free medications and care subsidies to safeguard patients’ health rights and reduce family burdens. The comprehensive mental health management and service mechanism continues to strengthen. Beijing took the national lead in launching the 12356 Mental Health Assistance Hotline, reinforcing collaboration between medical and educational institutions, extending care to new forms of employment groups, and providing residents with integrated online and offline mental health services.
