To strengthen Beijing’s disinfection talent workforce, improve standardized disinfection practices, and safeguard public health, in line with the National Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention’s “2025 National Disinfection Skills Competition Implementation Plan,” the Beijing Municipal Health Commission and Beijing Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention jointly organized the Beijing Disinfection Skills Competition. Teams from 16 districts, the Economic and Technological Development Zone, and more than 30 medical institutions participated. Contestants demonstrated the professionalism of the capital’s disinfection workers with rigorous attitudes and skilled techniques.

The competition consisted of district-level preliminaries, municipal semi-finals, and municipal finals. In the municipal semi-finals, 157 participants took a closed-book written exam, and those with the highest scores advanced to the municipal finals. The finals had two categories: experimental operation and knowledge quiz. The experimental operation group was assessed on personal protection, disinfection records, and medical waste disposal, while the knowledge quiz group focused on laws and regulations related to disinfection, evaluation standards, and testing methods. The municipal finals for the knowledge quiz group were held on August 5 at Anzhen Hospital’s conference hall, featuring three segments: Quick Answers, Race Against Time, and Challenge the Impossible. The judging panel comprised senior experts in disinfection, infection control, and disease control.

After intense competition, first, second, and third prizes were awarded in both categories, along with Outstanding Organization Awards for teams with strong results and excellent organization, recognizing and encouraging their contributions to advancing the disinfection field.

Disinfection is a critical defense in maintaining public health, breaking the chain of pathogen transmission. From medical institutions to public spaces, from daily disinfection to epidemic prevention, scientific and standardized disinfection directly affects infection control outcomes. The Disinfection Skills Competition is a concrete practice of the “Healthy Beijing” strategy. Through the approach of “promoting learning and practice through competition,” the event comprehensively assessed the professional level and practical ability of Beijing’s disinfection teams, laying a solid foundation for building a high-level talent pool. Going forward, Beijing will use this competition as an opportunity to deepen capacity building for disinfection teams, carry out training for professional disinfection personnel, raise public awareness of disinfection and protection, and contribute to safeguarding public health and supporting stable socio-economic development.
