To thoroughly implement the “Healthy Beijing 2030 Plan Outline”, comprehensively improve the nutrition and health literacy of primary and secondary school students across Beijing, and help students develop proper eating habits and the awareness of being the "first person responsible" for their own health, the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention, in collaboration with the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, carefully planned and successfully held the Beijing Nutrition and Health Knowledge Contest for primary and secondary school students.
The competition consisted of two stages: an individual online quiz and a group on-site final. During the online phase, which ran from May 20 to June 20, more than 42,000 students from 17 districts across the city enthusiastically registered and participated. The on-site group final took place on July 7 at the Economic-Technological Development Area campus of Beijing No.2 Middle School. Teams competing in the final were formed by schools that had performed well in the online competition. The atmosphere at the on-site final was lively, featuring three segments: required questions, buzzer questions, and risk questions. The contest content covered fundamental knowledge of nutrition and health, food selection, dietary balance, food labeling, and dietary recommendations.
After an intense and exciting competition, several first, second, and third prizes were awarded in both the primary and secondary school categories. Outstanding Organization Awards were also presented to education commissions, schools, and CDC branches in districts with high participation rates, excellent performance, and strong organizational efforts, in recognition and encouragement of their contributions to advancing student nutrition and health initiatives.
Upholding the design principle of “unity of knowledge and action,” the contest provided a valuable platform for primary and secondary students across the city to learn about nutrition and health. It was not only a knowledge competition but also a meaningful way to promote health awareness. Nutrition and health are the material foundations for students’ physical development and cognitive growth. Scientific dietary concepts and healthy eating habits are not only essential for protecting the physical and mental well-being of adolescents but also mark the starting point of a robust health management system. As a key initiative under the Healthy Beijing framework, this competition has effectively advanced the development of a student health management network that is government-led, school-implemented, and family-supported, injecting new vitality and momentum into efforts to improve the overall health of primary and secondary school students.
