December 1, 2024, marks the 37th World AIDS Day, with the theme “Joint Efforts of Communities: End AIDS, Share Health.” On this day, the final debate of the 2024 HIV Prevention Knowledge Promotion Competition for University Students in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region was successfully held at Beijing University of Technology. The event was attended by representatives from the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, heads of disease control departments from Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, as well as officials from disease control, education, and youth league organizations across the three regions. Representatives from Beijing University of Technology, along with over 200 university students and volunteers, also participated.
As part of the HIV prevention promotion campaign targeting university students in the region, six teams advanced to the finals after earlier local competitions. After intense rounds of debate, Beijing University of Technology, Tianjin Normal University, and the People’s Public Security University of China won the first prize in the competition.
2024 marks the eighth consecutive year that disease control authorities from the three regions have implemented the collaborative strategy of promoting HIV prevention knowledge under the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development initiative. Since September, a series of campaigns have been successfully launched across universities in the region, including online HIV prevention classes (58,000 views), virtual competitions (drawing participation from 321,000 people), HIV prevention-themed campaigns (collecting over 1,400 submissions), and debates (attracting 179 teams to participate). These activities have significantly enhanced university students’ awareness and active participation in HIV prevention efforts, playing a pivotal role in keeping campuses free from HIV.
