October 29, 2024, mark the 19th World Stroke Day. To effectively implement the goals outlined in the “Healthy China Action (2019-2030)”, the “Implementation Plan for Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Prevention and Control Action (2023-2030), Healthy China Action” and other documents, the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, in collaboration with the Beijing Cerebrovascular Disease Prevention and Control Office and the Mentougou District Health Commission, actively prepared and launched a Stroke Day publicity campaign. The theme of this campaign is 'Integrating Sports and Medicine to Combat Stroke.
The publicity campaign reached into the communities, bringing stroke awareness directly to people’s doorsteps, and was launched at the Area 1 of Shimenying New District, Dongxinfang Street, Mentougou District, Beijing. The event featured Li Jingjing, a cardiovascular neurology expert from the Neurology Center of Beijing Tiantan Hospital. Dr. Li provided a vivid and clear explanation of stroke, including its definition, types, and epidemiological trends. She discussed common symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures for stroke, demonstrated the correct method for measuring blood pressure, shared typical case studies, and emphasized the importance of regular exercise, a healthy diet, smoking cessation, and alcohol moderation in stroke prevention.
A free clinic area was set up at the event, where cerebrovascular disease experts offered free consultations. Citizens asked questions about their concerns, and experts provided professional health guidance. Special emphasis was placed on advising elderly participants to regularly monitor risk factors for stroke, such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood lipids, to ensure 'early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment.
For residents who have already suffered a stroke, doctors introduced simple and effective rehabilitation exercises that can be done at home. For example, limb rehabilitation exercises should begin with basic joint movements and gradually increase in range and difficulty, while language rehabilitation exercises involve communication with others and reading aloud.
This activity is community-based and aims to widely spread stroke knowledge, strongly advocate stroke prevention, and promote rehabilitation through scientific exercise. It actively encourages residents to adopt health awareness, practice a healthy lifestyle, and contribute to improving the overall health of the community.
