I. Epidemic overview

During the 25thweek of 2023, there were a total of 7,859 cases of 16 kinds of legal infectious diseases reported, and 5 cases died in Beijing. The top five diseases with a large number of cases are COVID-19, Other Infectious Diarrhea, Hand, Food and Mouth Diseases, Viral Hepatitis and Syphilis, accounting for 95.6% of the total number of cases of legal infectious diseases.

II. Health tips for key epidemic situation

The number of reported cases of legal infectious diseases in Beijing this week has decreased compared with last week, and respiratory infectious diseases are the main reported diseases, the cases of which accounted for 86.3% of the reported diseases.

Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease is a common infectious disease in children, characterized by fever, herpes or ulcers of the oral mucosa, and rashes on the skin of the hands, feet, buttocks and other areas. The following good hygiene practices are effective to prevent HFMD. 1. Children should wash their hands properly with water and hand sanitizer or soap for at least 20 seconds after touching public objects, after contact with saliva or respiratory secretions, after using the toilet, or before eating. Parents and caregivers should also wash hands properly before process food, after changing diapers or disposing items contaminated with feces. 2. It is necessary to avoid contact with sick children, avoid sharing utensils, towels or other personal items with sick children to prevent cross-infection. 3. Parents should keep the family environment hygienic, ventilate the room frequently, and dry clothes and beddings frequently. It is recommended to clean and disinfect the surfaces (countertops, doorknobs) and children's toys that are frequently touched daily. 4. Children’s feeding bottles, pacifiers and tableware should be fully cleaned and disinfected before and after use. Diapers of infants and young children should be washed, exposed to the sun or disinfected in time. Do not allow children to drink raw water or eat raw or cold food. 5. During the epidemic of HFMD, it is not advisable to take children to public places with crowds and poor air circulation. 6. EV71 vaccine can effectively prevent HFMD and other related diseases caused by EV-A71 infection. It is encouraged to complete the full course of vaccination before the age of 12 months.
