Ⅰ. Summary General Situation of the Epidemics
During the 10th week of 2009 (from 0:00, March 9 to 24:00, March 15), 1,395 cases of 15 legally defined infectious diseases with one case of death (hepatitis B) were reported in 18 districts and counties of Beijing Municipality. Among them, 9 categories of Type B Infectious Diseases amounting to 864 cases were reported, 0.58% lower than last week and 11.29% lower than the same week last year. The top 5 categories of diseases with the highest incidence rates are as follows: tuberculosis, dysentery, hepatitis B, syphilis and measles. Six categories of Type C Infectious Diseases amounting to 531 cases were reported, 14.69% higher than last week and 10.76% lower than the same week last year.
Ⅱ. Analysis of the Major Epidemics
(Ⅰ) Measles
This week, a total of 56 cases of measles were reported in Beijing, 15 cases more than the previous week and 25 cases less than the same period last year. The top 3 regions reporting the most incidence rates are Chaoyang District, Haidian District and Fengtai District, accounting for 66.07% of all the reported cases. Those infected are mainly scattered-living children, domestic helpers and the unemployed, cadres and staffs, and students, accounting for 60.71% of the total reported cases.
(Ⅱ) Chicken pox
A total of 339 cases were reported this week, 0.59% lower than last week and 27.92% higher than the same week last year. The top five regions reporting the most incidence rates are Chaoyang District, Haidian District, Changping District, Fengtai District, and Daxing District, accounting for 62.24% of the total reported cases. Those infected are mainly students and preschool children, accounting for 79.06% of the total.
(Ⅰ) Hand-foot-mouth disease
This week, a total of 123 cases were reported, 36 cases more than last week. The top 5 regions reporting the most incidence rates are Fengtai District, Chaoyang District, Haidian District, Daxing District and Changping District, accounting for 69.92% of the total. Those infected are mainly scattered-living children and preschool kindergarten children, accounting for 97.56% of the total reported cases.
ⅢNon-occupational professional Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Report
This week, a total of 69 cases were reported in Beijing with 102 people poisoned and no deaths reportednone died.
Ⅲ Special Reminders
Beijing has now entered the season featuring a high incidence rate of respiratory infectious diseases, and measles Chicken pox has been reported in some kindergartens and nurseries. This week, two cases of measles Chicken pox were reported, one in a primary school in Dongcheng District which has reported a total of 15 cases of measles Chicken pox between March 2 and March 15, 2009; the other was in a kindergarten in Fengtai District, which has reported 10 cases from March 9 to March 15, 2009. Now all infected kids have been treated in isolation, and no severe cases or cases of complications are reported.
Beijing Municipal Health Bureau hence urges all districts and county-level health and disease control departments to exert real efforts in disease prevention and control; all primary and secondary schools, kindergartens and nurseries in Beijing are required to strictly abide by the Standard Procedures on Infectious Disease Reporting by Schools, Kindergartens and NurseriesWork Norm of Epidemics Report on Infectious Diseases in Schools, genuinely implement the morning and noon check system for the realization of early detection, isolation, reporting and treatment so as to prevent the outbreaks and spread of epidemics. Other organizations with a large concentration of people should also attach particular importance to the prevention and control of respiratory infectious diseases.
