I General Situation of the Epidemics 
During the 19rd19th week of 2009 (from 0 a.m. on May 11 to 12 p.m. on May 1117), 3347 cases of 16 legally defined infectious diseases with 4 cases of death (2 cases of hepatitis B and one case of tuberculosis and one case of hepatitis C) were reported in 18 districts and counties of Beijing Municipality. Among them, 11 categories of Type B Infectious Diseases amounting to 1218 cases were reported, 7.12% higher than last week and 7.24% lower than the same week last year. The top 5 categories of diseases with the highest incidence rates were as follows: dysentery, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, syphilis and measles. Five categories of Type C Infectious Diseases amounting to 2129 cases were reported, 1.71% lower than last week and 36.97% lower than the same week last year.


II Key Epidemics


1 Measles
This week, 87 cases were reported throughout the city, up 20.83% from last week and down 8.42% from the same period of last year. Among them, the top three regions reporting the most incidence rates were Chaoyang District, Fengtai District, and Fangshan District, accounting for 63.22% of the total cases; the partients were mailing scattered-living children, houseworkers, unemployed people, workers and students, accounting for 67.82% of the total.


2 Chicken pox
A total of 592 cases of chicken pox were reported this week, 1.37% higher than last week and 4.36% lower than the same week last year. The top 5 regions reporting the most incidence rates were Haidian District, Chaoyang District, Fengtai District, Changping District and Daxing District, accounting for 69.26% of the total reported cases. Those infected were mainly students and preschool children, accounting for 80.91% of the total.


3 Hand-foot-mouth disease
A total of 1029 cases hand-foot-mouth disease were reported this week, 2.80% higher than last week and 52.21% lower than the same week last year.Theyear. The top 5 districts and counties with the most cases are Fengtai District, Chaoyang District, Changping  District, Haidian District, and Daxing District, accounting for the 65.50% of the total reported cases. The reported cases are mainly composed of , residentially-scattered children and kindergarten children, accounting for the 95.1% of the total.


III Important tips
This week, the city reported the first imported case of influenza type A H1N1. With the emerging cases of type A influenza H1N1 all over the world, and the peak of returning students studying abroad, incidence of imported type A influenza H1N1 in Beijing is likely to increase. Beijing Municipal Health Bureau demands medical institutions at all levels, other related departments of disease prevention and control to make preparations in advance, to enhance monitoring of type A influenza H1N1, and to prevent the spread of the disease.


 This week, the situation of the diseases was overall stable, much more cases of measles than last week, and two outbreaks of chicken pox reported. One outbreak was reported at a primary school of Shunyi District, reporting 16 cases of chicken pox; another one took place in central primary school in Miyun County, reporting 11 cases of chicken pox. Incidence of hand-foot-mouth disease was still on a slight increase. Therefore, the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau demands the related departments of disease prevention and control, while enhancing the control and prevention of the influenza type A H1N1, to enhance monitoring, prevention and control of intestinal infectious diseases, hand-foot-mouth disease, measles and chicken pox to prevent the spread of the epidemic outbreaks..
