Epidemic Situation of This Week(2009,7,6–2009,7,12)

I. General Situation of the Epidemics
    During the 27th week of the year 2009, from 0 o'clock of July 6 to 24 o'clock of July 12, across the 18 districts and counties of Beijing, 4693 cases of 22 legal infectious diseases have been reported, among which are 2 deaths (hepatitis B).


Among them, 14 categories of Type B Infectious Diseases amounting to 1553 cases have been reported, 0.71% higher than last week and 3.06% lower than the same week of last year. The top 5 categories of diseases with the highest incidence rates are dysentery, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, syphilis and gonorrhea. 7 categories of Type C Infectious Diseases amounting to 3139 cases have been reported, 4.60% higher than last week and 2.35% higher than the same week of last year.

 This week, 3139 cases out of the following 7 categories of Type C infectious diseases have been reported: other infectious diarrheas, hand-foot-mouth disease, epidemic parotitis, rubella, acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis, epidemic influenza and echinococcosis. The number accounts for 66.89% of the total and is 2.35% higher than the same period of last year.

Among them, categories with increased cases reported include other infectious diarrhea, epidemic influenza and echinococcosis, while the decreased categories include rubella, epidemic parotitis, acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis and hand-foot-mouth disease.

II. Focus of the Epidemic
(1) A H1N1 Influenza

This week, 59 confirmed cases of A H1N1 Influenza have been reported (among which there are 17 Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and foreign cases), 25 cases less than last week.
As of the 27th week, reported and confirmed cases of A H1N1 Influenza total at 265 in Beijing, among which 120 cases are foreigners, accounting for 45.28%; all age groups are involved and the patients are mainly 6-54 years old with 249 cases, accounting for 93.96% of the total; no deaths have been reported.

(2) Dysentery
This week, 917 cases have been reported throughout the city, up 10.62% than last week and down 9.48% than the same period of last year.
Among them, the top five regions and counties with the highest incidence rates are Chaoyang, Haidian, Fengtai, Changping, Xicheng, Shijingshan and Tongzhou, accounting for 69.25% of the total cases; all age groups are involved and the patients are mainly scattered-living children, cadres, students, household service staff, unemployed people and the retired.
By this week the city has reported 10083 cases of dysentery, a decrease of 19.65% compared to the same period of last year.


(3) Hand-foot-mouth Disease
 This week, 821 cases have been reported, down 12.29% than last week and up 23.63% than the same period of last year.
 The top 5 districts and counties with the most cases are Fengtai, Chaoyang, Tongzhou, Changping and Daxing districts, accounting for the 69.55% of the total reported cases. The reported cases mainly focus on preschool children, residentially-scattered children and students, accounting for the 94.88% of the total.
 As of this week, the city has reported 14574 cases of hand-foot-mouth disease with three deaths.
 The city’s cumulative reported cases from May 2 to July 12, 2009 decrease by 17.93% compared to the same period of last year.

III. Precautions
This week, the cases of intestinal infectious diseases continue to increase and the cases of A H1N1 Influenza have decreased compared to last week.

With summer approaching, more people go out for travel and dining, Beijing Municipal Health Bureau demands health supervision institutions at all levels make more effort on health supervision of food and catering to prevent the occurrence of intestinal infectious diseases such as dysentery and infectious diarrhea diseases, and prevent the imported diseases.
 

To prevent and control A H1N1 Influenza for the next phase in a more scientific, positive and effective way, Beijing Municipal Health Bureau demands all departments implement the requirements of related documents recently issued by the Ministry of Health and Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, insist on the prevention and control principle of “paying great attention, positively coping, jointly preventing and controlling, treating in a scientific way according to laws” and the prevention and control strategy of “reducing secondary cases, prevent community spreading, strengthening treatment of severe cases, monitoring the changes of epidemic situation” to avoid the occurrence of spreading and outbreak of diseases.
