Depression is not simply “feeling unhappy.” It is a hidden mental burden that can trap a person in emotional suffering. When negative emotions reach a breaking point, they can place a person's life in serious danger. Recently, a woman in her twenties was rushed to the hospital after taking a large quantity of medication due to depression. Thanks to the swift and professional response of the Beijing 120 Fengtai Emergency Center's Yuegezhuang ambulance team, her life was saved. This incident highlights both the importance of emergency medical care and the need to pay greater attention to people suffering from depression.

On the day of the incident, the patient's family found her confused and unresponsive, with empty medication packages scattered nearby. After speaking with her, they learned that she had been struggling with depression and had taken an excessive amount of medication after experiencing suicidal thoughts. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, the family immediately called 120 for emergency assistance.

In cases of drug overdose, every second counts. The window for effective treatment is extremely limited. The ambulance team quickly rushed to the scene. While the ambulance was on its way, physician Zhao Zhenwangremained in contact with the family, instructing them to keep the patient lying on her side to prevent choking on vomit and to prepare for emergency treatment.

When the emergency team arrived, the patient was already semi-conscious, lethargic, and slow to respond. Her condition was critical. Dr. Zhao rapidly assessed her vital signs and confirmed drug poisoning. Immediate emergency treatment was initiated. Following medical instructions, nurse Li Zhenyu quickly established an intravenous line and administered fluids. He also carefully cleared foreign matter from the patient's mouth to ensure her airway remained open. Throughout the process, the emergency staff provided not only medical care but also words of comfort and encouragement, helping to restore hope.

After on-site treatment, the patient was carefully transferred into the ambulance. Driver Zhao Weili transported her safely and rapidly to the hospital. During the journey, the emergency team continuously monitored her condition and used pre-hospital communication equipment to transmit her medical information to the receiving hospital. A green channel (priority treatment pathway) was activated, saving valuable time for further emergency care.

The patient was eventually delivered safely to the hospital for specialized treatment. Thanks to the prompt response and professional intervention of the emergency team, her vital signs gradually stabilized, and she was successfully rescued from danger. Relieved and grateful, her family repeatedly thanked the emergency personnel for saving their loved one's life.

This rescue operation was not only a race against time but also an important reminder to society. Young people often face pressures related to academics, relationships, and other life challenges, which can lead to emotional distress. Depression is a serious medical condition that deserves understanding, attention, and support. We should all make an effort to listen to and care for those around us. Family members and friends should offer patience, understanding, and emotional support to people suffering from depression, while encouraging them to seek professional treatment. We must never allow despair to lead to tragedy. Every life is unique, and every hope is worth protecting. Emergency workers safeguard lives with professionalism and dedication. May everyone facing emotional difficulties receive kindness, support, and understanding, cherish life, and move forward toward the light.
