With the arrival of spring and rising temperatures, more and more residents are heading outdoors to enjoy activities such as skateboarding, cycling, and walking in parks. While these activities bring relaxation and enjoyment, they also come with potential safety risks. Recently, the Beijing 120 Emergency Dispatch and Command Center received a call for help: a young man was injured while skateboarding in a park and required urgent medical assistance. Emergency responders acted swiftly and professionally, successfully transporting the patient for treatment and safeguarding his health and safety.

At noon that day, the dispatch center received an urgent call. The caller, sounding anxious, reported that the injured person had fallen off a skateboard and was suffering severe leg pain, unable to move, with a suspected fracture. Urgentmedical assistance was needed. The dispatcher immediately sent the nearest ambulance team and provided on-site guidance over the phone, instructing bystanders not to move the injured person to prevent secondary injury.

Upon receiving the dispatch order, the Yinghai Emergency Station of Daxing Sub-center quickly assembled a response team, bringing emergency kits, splints, and a stretcher, and rushed to the scene. After arrival, the team conducted a rapid and thorough assessment. The patient, a 36-year-old man, had fallen due to excessive speed and loss of balance while skateboarding. His right lower leg was significantly swollen with limited mobility. A preliminary diagnosis suggested a closed fracture, with no other associated injuries.

Following standard emergency procedures, the medical team promptly immobilized the injured lower leg using splints to reduce pain. They continuously monitored the patient’s vital signs and provided reassurance to ease his anxiety. After stabilization, the patient was carefully transferred onto a stretcher and transported steadily to the ambulance. Throughout the process, they closely observed his condition and pre-hospital emergency treatment and communicated in advance with the receiving hospital, ensuring timely follow-up treatment.

Spring is a peak season for outdoor activities. Sports such as skateboarding, roller skating, and cycling, due to their fun and engaging nature, are especially popular among teenagers and young adults . However, due to their speed and technical demands, improper operation or lack of protective equipment can easily lead to accidents such as falling or colliding, resulting in fractures, abrasions, and sprains. In this case, the injury was caused by the absence of protective gear and improper technique.

The Beijing 120 Emergency Center reminds the public to always put safety first during spring outings. When you are skateboarding or roller skating, wear appropriate protective gear such as helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads, warm up properly before exercise, choose flat, open areas free of obstacles, avoid high-speed movement in crowded places, ensure that minors are accompanied by guardians and avoid dangerous maneuvers. In the event of an injury, do not move the injured person unnecessarily to avoid further harm. In serious cases, call 120 immediately and follow professional medical guidance.
