Recently, the Daxing Branch of Beijing 120 received an emergency dispatch order: a young child had suffered an accident, sustaining an open wound to the forehead and face, and was in urgent need of medical attention. Time meant life, and the injury was the command. Having just completed a previous mission, Dr. Hou Guiping’s team from the Qingyundian Emergency Station immediately regrouped and rushed to the scene.

On the way, Dr. Hou Guiping quickly communicated with nurse Bai Chenglin, assessing possible scenarios in advance and preparing the necessary emergency equipment to save every precious second. Meanwhile, driver Qi Zhikui skillfully maneuvered the ambulance, racing safely yet swiftly toward the site.

Upon arrival, the emergency crew found that the patient was a three-year-old girl. Intense pain had left her crying inconsolably, while her family was deeply anxious. Dr. Hou immediately stepped forward—calming the family while performing a rapid but thorough physical assessment of the child. The evaluation revealed that the girl was conscious but had an approximately 3-centimeter open wound on her forehead and face. Although bleeding had temporarily subsided, the rich blood supply to the head in children meant that severe bleeding could recur at any time.

“Apply pressure dressing—stop the bleeding at once!” Dr. Hou instructed decisively. With seamless teamwork, the experienced nurse swiftly disinfected and dressed the wound with pressure bandaging, effectively controlling the risk and stabilizing the condition. The entire procedure was performed quickly, precisely, and steadily, minimizing the child’s suffering.

It was later learned that the child had fallen while playing at home, striking her head on the corner of a table. Thanks to the prompt treatment and rapid transfer provided by the emergency team, the child received timely follow-up care and has since recovered.

Beijing 120 reminds parents: young children are naturally curious and highly active, requiring special attention to their safety at home. Where possible, remove sharp furniture corners or install protective guards, and strengthen supervision to prevent accidents. In case of emergency, it is necessary to dial 120 without delay.
