On the night of July 16, 2025, a patient in Beijing’s Daxing District accidentally fell into a vertical shaft several meters deep. The injuries were severe and required immediate medical attention. Upon receiving the emergency call, Dr. Zhang Jinju and her team from the Jingkai Station of the Beijing Emergency Medical Center rushed to the scene, launching a race against time to save the patient.
Upon arrival, the team found the shaft to be narrow and dark, with the extent of the patient's injuries unclear, posing significant rescue challenges. The firefighters suggested that emergency medical personnel descend into the shaft together to promptly provide treatment and stabilize the injured limb before lifting the patient to the surface. Dr. Zhang volunteered without hesitation. With safety ropes secured by the firefighters, she bravely descended into the shaft. In the dim and confined space, Dr. Zhang calmly assessed the patient, stabilized the injuries, and monitored vital signs throughout the process, buying critical time for the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, the firefighters set up a rescue tripod and deployed specialized equipment to save the patient. On the ground, driver Zhao Yang and two stretcher handlers stood ready to receive the patient, while nurse Niu Zeye prepared emergency medical equipment to provide on-the-spot care if needed. After nearly an hour of coordinated effort, the patient was successfully lifted out of the shaft and transported urgently to the hospital. Thanks to timely on-site intervention, the patient was brought out of critical condition and is now stable.
This successful rescue showcased the professionalism and dedication of the emergency responders. The seamless cooperation between 120 and 119 highlighted the unwavering commitment to the principle of “life above all,” working together to safeguard public health and safety.
