Recently, the emergency team from the Jingkai Station of Beijing Emergency Medical Center, led by Dr. Wang Xinyu, received a dispatch order from the command center: an elderly patient in a residential community had suddenly experienced chest tightness and pain, and was in urgent need of medical attention. The team immediately rushed to the scene.
On the way, Dr. Wang Xinyu contacted the patient, who spoke with pain and anxiety: "Hello, my chest hurts so badly. It feels like a heavy stone is pressing on it. I’m home alone… please hurry, it hurts so much..."“Please don’t worry, we are on our way,” Dr. Wang gently reassured the patient. “Keep your phone line open and try not to move.” Meanwhile, nurse Zhang Qiao raced against time to prepare the necessary emergency equipment.
Upon arrival, the team saw the patient pale and sweating profusely, with beads of sweat rolling down his forehead. Every groan of pain was heart-wrenching. Dr. Wang Xinyu immediately began examining the patient while nurse Zhang Qiao quickly performed an electrocardiogram (ECG). Based on the ECG results and the patient’s symptoms, Dr. Wang determined that the patient was suffering from an acute myocardial infarction. The situation was extremely critical. The team immediately initiated emergency treatment: cardiac monitoring, oxygen inhalation, IV access, and contacting the patient’s family to inform them of the condition.
The team worked together to carefully lift the patient from the fourth floor onto the stretcher and transported him to the ambulance. Driver Yue Wanlong then sped towards the nearest hospital while ensuring safety.
Upon arrival at the hospital, as the team was preparing to transfer the patient to the emergency room, the monitor suddenly emitted a sharp alarm — the patient had gone into ventricular fibrillation. Nurse Zhang Qiao immediately began chest compressions while Dr. Wang Xinyu performed defibrillation — once, twice... After intense resuscitation efforts, a miracle happened: the patient regained consciousness, a spontaneous heartbeat, and breathing. The team breathed a sigh of relief. They then coordinated with the hospital’s medical staff to transfer the patient to the catheterization lab for further treatment.
Later that afternoon, the team followed up and learned that the patient had temporarily escaped danger and was transferred to the CCU (Coronary Care Unit) for further postoperative care. The team felt immense relief and joy. With their professional skills and compassion, they had successfully saved a life.
In this mission, the team of Yue Wanlong, Wang Xinyu, and Zhang Qiao from the Jingkai Emergency Station demonstrated the true spirit of medical care with their expertise and dedication. Their race against time and unwavering commitment exemplified the essence of emergency medicine and built a solid line of defense for the safety of the patient's life.
