Weekly First-aid Topic: Avoiding electric shock risk in rainy days

In Beijing, the late July and early August is the most concentrated period of rainfall in a year.

Recently, affected by Typhoon Doksuri, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and other nearby places have been continuously hit by heavy rainfall. The meteorological and emergency department advised citizens to reduce going out during the flood season and pay attention to safety. There are hidden dangers outdoors in rainy days. How to avoid the risk of electric shock and how to rescue those who get electrocuted?

1. Stay away from electrical equipment. The insulation performance of power equipment and the resistance of the human body decline in rainy and humid weather. Therefore, while walking outdoors in rainy days, it is necessary to stay away from the electrical equipment, let alone taking shelter from the rain under power supply lines or transformers. It is recommended to avoid metal cable-stayed wires of utility poles.

2. Do not take shelter from the rain in tall trees or large billboards. Once tall trees or large billboards are broken or blown down by strong winds, it is likely to break the adjacent electric wires, or cause branches and billboards to hang on the electric wires. Once the human body comes into contact with the broken wires, wet trees or metal billboards, it is easy to cause electric shock.

3. Do not touch the trees near the wires. The wires may have been surrounded by the crowns of the tree as it grows taller gradually. The insulation layer of the wire may be damaged after a long period of friction, causing short circuit or discharge.

4. Try to detour when encountering ponding. When going out, you should try to choose a road section without ponding. If you have to go through the water, you should observe whether there are electricity and power supply equipment nearby, and whether there are any power supply lines that have fallen into the water. If so, you should not proceed rashly. You should go back to a place 8 meters away from the point of the power supply equipment in the water, make a mark to remind other pedestrians, and notify the power supply department in time for emergency treatment.

5. Save people with insulation protection. Once it is found that someone is electrocuted and fell to the ground in the water, the power supply should be cut off immediately or the wounded should be separated from the power supply as soon as possible with an insulating device such as a dry wooden stick, bamboo stick or dry cloth.

First aid after electric shock:

After the human body gets an electric shock, there are usually phenomena such as pale complexion, dilated pupils, cessation of pulse and breathing, and electric burns. After an electric shock, on-site first aid should be implemented immediately. As long as the treatment is timely and correct, most people who get electric shock could be rescued.

The first is to get the shocked person out of the power supply as soon as possible. If someone gets an electric shock, it is correct to cut off the power supply in time, and immediately use dry wooden sticks, rubber, plastic or other insulators to disconnect the person from the power supply. You must not touch it directly with your hands.

Second, observe the situation of the electric-shocked person. If the person who has been shocked has not lost consciousness, he or she should lie still and other people should pay some attention. If the patient is unconscious, it is necessary to call 120 immediately and wait for a doctor. At the same time, it is recommended to observe whether he is breathing. If the patient has no consciousness or breathe, it is necessary to perform on-site CPR for first aid, and if possible, people aside should fetch an automatic external defibrillator (AED) immediately to support first aid.

Beijing 120 reminds you that heavy rains are frequent during the flood season. Citizens should pay attention to weather forecasts and early warning information in a timely manner, and try to avoid going out in heavy rain. When you must go out, it is necessary to bypass areas with serious water ponding to prevent falling or drowning. It is suggested to pay attention to protection of lightning or wind and traffic safety. If necessary, please call 120 in time.
