The autumn in the north is very short, and the weather is getting colder with the winter coming on its way. If people stay outdoors for a long time, together with the cold wind and rain, the insufficient heat preservation will lead to "hypothermia", which may be fatal. Hypothermia, also known as heat loss. A person's normal body temperature is 37 ° C, but if the human body is exposed to coldness for a long time and there is no warming measure, the core body temperature will drop below 35 ° C. The main causes of hypothermia are the following two conditions.

1. Exposure

This hypothermia occurs normally during outdoor activities, especially in the wild when the weather is volatile. The hypothermia could occur when travelers get lost or injured with not enough protection or food supply in a cold environment, resulting in gradual loss of heat.

2. Immersion

The hypothermia caused by immersion is easy to understand. It could happen in all weather conditions. If the body is immersed in water for too long, it will cause rapid heat loss. This hypothermia attacks very quickly because the body dissipates heat 25 times faster in water than in air. If the water temperature drops below 10 ° C, the human body will lose the ability to save itself after 30 minutes without thermal protection equipment.

There are 5 first-aid steps for patients with hypothermia recommended by Beijing 120.

1. Move indoors. The patient should be moved to a warm room. It is necessary to change the wet clothes from the patient to the dry, thick clothing to keep warm.

2. Warm the human body. Electric blankets, warm water bags, etc. could be used to warm important parts. If there are no conditions, you can directly use body temperature to warm patients.

3. Hot water. It is necessary to feed the patient with some warm water to help the temperature recovery. Drinks, especially drinks containing alcohol, are not recommended.

4. Keep dry. After the patient's body temperature rises, it is necessary to pay close attention to the patient's physical condition. Sweaty clothes and quilts should be changed to keep the body dry.

5. CPR. Patients with severe hypothermia may have respiratory arrest. At this time, first-aid measures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation could be adopted. It is necessary to call the 120 emergency number in time and wait for rescue.
