The scald in the kitchen is not only a small scald on the fingers. Injuries such as a large area of scald caused by a whole pot of boiling water and boiling soup happen occasionally. There are five first-aid measures for scalds.
Rinsing. It is recommended to rinse the injury with cold water for 10-15 minutes, which can not only reduce the temperature of the scald, and relieve pain, but also reduce the exudation and swelling of the scald. Ice water should not be used, as it may irritate the skin and the scald too much.
Taking off. The patient should take off the rings, watches, belts or clothes around the scalded area, otherwise it will increase the thermal damage of the injury, and the temperature will be difficult to dissipate. It is necessary to remember to rinse with cold water.
Soaking. Once a scald occurs, if there is no condition for instant rinsing with cold water, you could soak the injury in cold water for 15-30 minutes, which could accelerate the cooling and relieve pain.
Covering. After emergency treatment, it is necessary to cover the scald with a piece of clean cloth on the way to the hospital and towel should not be used. The skin is protective to the human body. Since the skin of the scald is damaged, bacteria could easily pass through the injury, causing infection.
Sending. It means sending the patient to the hospital. If the child suffers from scald, the parent should send the child to the nearest clinic for emergency treatment before rushing to a large hospital for further treatment.
