The dog days have passed, and the hot summer days in most parts of China are coming to an end. The weather will gradually turn cooler. The climate is mainly characterized by "cool" and "dry". The temperature difference between day and night is large, which is easy to get colds. Autumn is also a period of high incidence of infectious diarrhea. Following the principle of going to bed early and getting up early to avoid cold is the key to keeping health.

There is a folk saying that "people dress casually in February and August". It indicates that the temperature in early autumn is unstable, and clothes should be increased or decreased according to the temperature change. Generally, it is recommended to dress until you feel cool but not cold. The umbilicus is the most vulnerable part of the human body to coldness and the coldness will affect the function of the spleen and stomach, resulting in loss of appetite, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Therefore, when the temperature is low in autumn, people should pay attention to keeping the navel warm and avoid wearing or wear less navel-baring clothes. On the one hand, people should pay attention to nourishing yin and moistening the lungs during autumn. It is advisable to eat honey, sesame, lily, lotus seeds, etc. On the other hand, it is necessary to pay attention to strengthening the spleen and replenishing qi, by eating more foods that are appetizing and digesting, such as whole grains, beans, fungi, yams, and red dates. People should eat less raw and cold fruits and iced drinks to avoid diarrhea. To prevent hydropenia in autumn, it is necessary to drink enough water in time. Drinking a glass of honey water, or eating a pear or persimmon at night helps to relieve dryness. When sleeping at night, the doors and windows should be closed, and the abdomen should be covered with a thin quilt to prevent the coldness at night. However, it is not advisable to cover a thick quilt or covering the whole body, so as to avoid sweat hurting the body.

During the autumn, people could exercise properly in the morning and evening. The temperature at noon is high, and outdoor sports should still be avoided. In particular, middle-aged and elderly people with high blood pressure should not exercise for a long time from the morning to the noon. Jogging, doing exercises, boxing, and walking are recommended and it is necessary to avoid excessive exercise.
