The dispatching and command center of the Beijing Emergency Center receives call for help from patients with coma due to hypoglycemia every day. Hypoglycemia is one of the complications of diabetes. How should we deal with hypoglycemia? Hypoglycemia can cause sweating, rapid heartbeat, tremors, numbness in hands and feet, and even seizures and coma. The patient should be helped to sit or lie down and intake sweets, chocolate or sugar water, etc. If the patient is unconscious, he or she should be placed in the recovery supine position and sent to the hospital as soon as possible or it is necessary to call 120 for help. It is not recommended to feed sugar water to unconscious patients, otherwise it may cause choking or even suffocation.

It is worth noting that diabetic patients who have been taking hypoglycemic drugs for a long time should keep a balanced diet. It is not necessary to arbitrarily increase or decrease the dose to prevent hypoglycemic coma. In addition to hypoglycemia, the causes of coma by diabetes may also come from sharp rise in blood glucose, which may lead to ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar coma. If a diabetic patient suffers from a coma, the blood sugar should be measured first.

In addition, lychees are in season recently. Lychees are a high-fructose food. When having lychees with an empty stomach or having a lot of lychees in a short period of time, fructose cannot be converted into glucose in human body in time. At the same time, it will stimulate the pancreas to secrete a large amount of insulin to decompose blood sugar, resulting in "hypoglycemia" symptoms. Therefore, young children and diabetic patients should be cautious about eating lychees.
