Weekly First-aid Topic: Beware of pollen allergies in spring blooms

Recently, at around 3:00 pm, the dispatcher of the dispatch and command center of the Beijing Emergency Center received a call from a high school. A senior one student had a sudden rash and low blood pressure. It was suspected that the student had an allergy, and was in urgent need of an ambulance. It was learned that the student was allergic to pollen in the air, which caused allergy symptoms.

Pollen allergies mostly occur in spring from March to May. People with allergies should avoid contact with pollen. It is advised to close windows as much as possible to reduce the entry of outdoor pollen. Indoor cleanliness, ventilation and proper diet are also important. To avoid pollen contamination, it is necessary to take protection measures such as wearing masks, glasses and other protective equipment when going out. Strengthening physical exercise improves immunity. If the patient experiences loss of consciousness, apnea, or near-death breathing, it is necessaty to immediately call 120 and perform CPR.

Tips from 120 dispatch command center:

1. If the patient has seasonal allergies caused by unknown reasons, they should go to the hospital for a test as soon as possible to identify the allergen.

2. The hormone drugs should not be used without the doctor's advice.

3. If the patient has a clear history of allergens, they should avoid contact or take protective measures.
