Since winter comes, the temperature has continued to drop in Beijing. It is enjoyable to have a warm charcoal hot pot. While enjoying the delicious food, Beijing 120 reminds citizens to be alert to the carbon monoxide poisoning. Recently, the dispatch and command center of the Beijing Emergency Center received a call claiming that one of two customers eating charcoal hot pot in a restaurant fainted suddenly, and the other experienced dizziness and discomfort. Carbon monoxide poisoning was suspected. The people around dialed 120 for help immediately and dispatching center sent an ambulance to the scene rapidly and instructed people at the scene to open the windows in time for ventilation. Fortunately, it was interfered in time and the patients were sent to the hospital by ambulance for further treatment.

Here are some tips from 120. When using a coal stove for heating in a closed room, due to poor ventilation and insufficient oxygen supply, a large amount of carbon monoxide may be produced and accumulated in the room. Using pipeline gas with aging or leaking pipeline may also cause poisoning due to leaking gas. Carbon monoxide poisoning may also occur when using gas water heater for too long or with poor ventilation, starting a car within the car in winter or sleeping in a car after turning on the AC. In the event of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, you should open the window immediately for ventilation, move the patient to a place with fresh air and good ventilation, tilt the patient’s head, and clean the vomit and secretions from the mouth and nose to keep the airway unobstructed. The patient should be kept warm. It is necessary to call the 120 emergency center.
