Recently, the Beijing Emergency Center received a call from a patient with a sudden speaking disorder and physical impairment. It is learnt that the patient had a history of diabetes and had poor blood sugar control recently. After the ambulance arrived, the emergency doctor learned that the patient had poor blood sugar control and increased the insulin dosage 3 days ago. The patient's blood sugar was 2.7 mmol/l. Afterwards, the emergency personnel injected 50% glucose into the patient and eased the symptoms gradually. The blood glucose rose to 7.8mmol/l, and the patient was sent to a nearby hospital for further treatment safely.

When hypoglycemia occurs, the symptom varies from person to person and will gradually change. The symptoms such as limb tremor (hand and foot shaking), heart palpitations, sweating, hunger, dizziness, fatigue, and drowsiness may occur in the early stages of hypoglycemia. If the symptoms are not detected or eased in time, symptoms such as difficulty walking or feeling weak, and blurred vision may occur. Confusion or strange behavior, loss of consciousness or convulsions may also happen in severe cases. You should call an ambulance and seek medical treatment in time if the following situations occur. 1. Lose consciousness and cannot be woke up. 2. Confusion after taking carbohydrate substances or intravenously injecting glucose-increasing drugs. 3. Hypoglycemia still occurs after taking carbohydrate substances or intravenously injecting glucose-increasing drugs. Patients should not drive to the hospital by themselves when hypoglycemia occurs.

Diabetes patients should regularly take drugs and test blood sugar. After adjusting blood sugar lowering drugs, it is necessary to test fasting and post-meal blood sugar, and bring sugar-containing substances such as drinks and candies with them to replenish sugar in time. It is worth noting that if the patient shows consciousness disorder caused by hypoglycemia and cannot swallowing, you should not feed water and food, to avoid aspiration or airway obstruction. You should dial 120 while keeping the patient's breathing unobstructed, and wait for professional medical staff to open the blood vessel and inject glucose through the vein. People with weak physique need to strengthen physical exercise, eat and sleep regularly, and avoid overwork.
