Weekly First-aid Topic: First-aid methods for accidental injuries in summer

Accidental injuries occur frequently in summer, especially bumping injuries. Among them, knee abrasions from falling during dashing are the most common type of abrasions. Walking and falling, Injuries caused by head hitting the corner of the table by falling during walking are the most common type of lacerations. Scalp hematoma is a type of injury often caused by fall injuries, which is likely to occur in lively children. It is important for parents to master some first-aid methods.

Here are some first-aid methods for accidental injuries. 1. Abrasions. Abrasions are commonly referred to as "abrasions of the skin". There is a little bleeding from the wound. It is recommended to rinse the wound with clean water (such as tap water or purified water), especially when the dirt or sand on the ground embedded or scratched into the skin. After the wound is dry, you could apply some iodophor or iodine tincture to disinfect it without dressing. You could take showers with this kind of wound, but it is best to repeat the disinfection after shower. 2. Skin laceration. The wound of skin laceration is usually deep with much bleeding. The first step for dealing with the wound is to stop the bleeding. You could use a sterile gauze or a clean towel to press the wound until it stops bleeding. The second step is to disinfect by applying some iodophor to the wound. The third step is to bandage through covering the wound lightly with sterile gauze or band-aid, and just sticking it well. Similarly, if the wound is infected led by contacting with water, it is recommended to repeat disinfection and re-dress the wound. 3. Hematoma, commonly known as "a bump", could be dealt with by applying a cold towel to the wound within 24 hours of the injury, in order to constrict the blood vessels and stop bleeding of the blood capillary in the inner layer of the skin. After 24 hours, you could apply a warm towel to the wound to alleviate the hematoma.

The time to go to the hospital depends on the condition of the injury. 1. If the wound is deep and dirty with large amount of bleeding that could not be stopped easily, it is advised to go to the emergency department in time, and take a tetanus shot if necessary. 2. If the injury is in the head, in addition to doing immediate first aid measures, it is necessary to observe the performance of the injured. If there are symptoms such as vomiting or lethargy, it is recommended to go to the hospital for examination to prevent minor concussions or more serious head injuries.
