In accordance with the requirements of Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, this year, our city will set up psychiatric department in third-level general hospitals and infectious disease hospitals. There are two reasons for the provision. First of all, with the rapid development of socio-economy, the pressure of work and life increases, making spiritual and mental disorders frequently-occurring. Relying only on few psychiatric hospitals brought a lot of inconvenience to the medical treatment of masses; on the other hand, if psychiatric patients had appendicitis, fractures, infectious diseases and other somatic diseases, where should they go for treatment? This has always been a problem confounding psychiatric patients and health administrative departments.

Therefore, in order to meet the medical needs of these people, this year, Beijing Municipal Health Bureau starts three psychiatric hospitals, including the Sixth Hospital of Peking University, Anding Hospital and Huilongguan Hospital to counterpart support three general hospitals, including the People's Hospital, Chaoyang Hospital and Beijng Tongren Hospital, for their construction of Psychiatric Departments, and meanwhile, sets up Psychiatric Department in three infectious disease hospitals, including the Chest Hospital, Ditan Hospital and YouAn Hospital, so that the general hospitals and infectious disease hospitals could gradually take on the diagnosis and treatment of common psychiatric diseases while the psychiatric patients with serious somatic illness and infectious diseases can also receive comprehensive health care services under the guidance of psychiatric department doctors.

At present, the work of three psychiatric hospitals counterpart supporting general hospitals in constructing the psychiatric departments has achieved initial success. For example, the Psychiatric Department of recipient Chaoyang Hospital has a complete of senior, middle and primary titles psychiatrist team, and from Monday to Saturday, the psychiatric outpatient service is open for all day, and monthly outpatient amount reaches about 1200 person-times and the monthly average hospitalized patients with psychiatry and somatic illness are about 70 person-times. The People’s Hospital is all-day open for mental health outpatients from Tuesday to Thursday, and the monthly average outpatient amount is about 211 person-times. Beijing Tongren Hospital now has five psychiatrists including Chief and Associate Chief Physicians, and are all-day open from Monday to Friday, as well as the morning of Saturday and Sunday, and the monthly average out-patient amount is 335 person-times. The work of infectious disease hospitals opening Psychiatric Department is also under way, and the department will officially open within this year. In addition, the Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Peking University Hospital, the Third Hospital of Peking University, Hua Xin Hospital and Pok Oi Hospital and other third-level hospitals have also set up Psychiatric Departments, so that Beijing Mental Health Regulation has been well implemented.

Under the impetus of Health Bureau, three psychiatric hospitals and counterpart-supporting hospitals have signed cooperation agreements. On one hand, psychiatric hospitals send doctors to general hospitals for regular visit; on the other hand, the recipient hospitals also send medical staff to psychiatric hospitals for further studies, so that the Psychiatric Departments of recipient hospitals can guarantee higher level of diagnosis and treatment.
