Host: nice to meet you, director Deng. Recently, many audiences called to ask how to help poor children suffering from illness. They expressed their wish of offering donations. Can you outline relative procedures formulated by the Beijing municipal government?

Director Deng: Sure. First, I’d like to express my sincere thanks to these audiences. Thank you for your care for sick children and support for public welfare establishments. It is such a coincidence that lately I also received a letter from a warm-hearted migrant worker in Beijing. It said that he wanted to contribute his bit to help these sick and poor children with receiving medical treatment, yet had no access to relative procedures. I suggested him to go to “Health Foundation of Beijing in Helping Poor Children with Receiving Medical Treatment”. A few days later, I received another letter from him. He told me that he had successfully donated money, and he and his family felt so delighted that they had fulfilled their wishes to help others. In addition, he also offered constructive suggestions on donation & contribution according to his personal experience. Here, I’d like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to this loving friend. And I wish more people can join in the activity to help poor children with receiving medical treatment.

Host:  Just now you mentioned“Health Foundation of Beijing in Helping Poor Children with Receiving Medical Treatment”. Would you please give a brief introduction to this organization?

Director Deng: Ok. “Health Foundation of Beijing in Helping Poor Children with Receiving Medical Treatment”was founded on July 1st,2003. It is a regional public funding charity organization authorized to register by Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau. Since its establishment, it has received from people of various circles donations amounting to RMB1.1million, with which 99 children suffering from difficult and severe illness were saved. These children come to Beijing from 19 provinces, cities and autonomous regions. Apart from the donation work, the Foundation also organized various forms of charity activities, such as “sale of children’s paintings for charity purpose”, “wish for love—The Same Song going to Beijing Children’s Hospital”, “Children’s Concert” etc. These activities called on the general public to “care about children and health”, to offer love, and to help poor children with receiving medical treatment.
 
    Host: Those who donate money may concern more about whether their money is effectively used and functional. Can you tell us the main targets of support of the Foundation?

    Director Deng: Certainly. First, the Foundation will offer directional donation according to the donators’will. In case when donators have no directional donation will, the Foundation will choose the targets of support. At the beginning of establishment, the Fund formulated 6 criteria for targets of support: Firstly, the targets of support must be children under the age of 14 with domicile by operation of law, and these who see doctor in Beijing medical institutions; Secondly, the targets of support must be those suffer from difficult and severe illness; Thirdly, targets of support must be those who can achieve basic recovery after medical treatment; Fourthly, the estimated medical fees should be above RMB5000; Fifthly, the targets of support must be those whose families are poor enough as not being able to afford the medical fees; Finally, the sick children must have no medical insurance. Only those who can meet all the 6 criteria are qualified to submit written applications to the Foundation. The written applications are to undergo severe examination and approval.

Host: What procedures should citizens undergo if they want to offer their love and donate money to the Foundation?

Director Deng: At present, three forms of donations are available to choose from. First, donators can remit money through a bank. Second, donators can remit money through the post office. Address: NO.56 Nanlishi Road, Fuxingmen-nei Street, Xicheng District, Beijing. Post Number: 100045. But, it’s always better to call their service number “12320” in advance. After the donation arrives, the donator will receive from the Foundation a donation receipt made under the supervision of the finance bureau.

    At present, the Foundation has received another 58 written applications for help. With the increase of publicity strength, a growing number of poor and sick children will submit applications for help. We wish those capable individuals and organizations can give a helping and loving hand to support and encourage these children, so that they can confront challenges posed by illness and recover completely as soon as possible.
