The alliance of international breast feeding action have defined August 1-7 as the annual "World Breast Feeding Week" since 1992.
　　

This year is Olympic year. So, the alliance of international breast feeding action defined the publicity theme of this year as "To support breast feeding, to win the first gold medal of life", and raised the publicity slogan "Mother is like Olympic athlete who need the support of government, family and the whole society".
　　

There are quite a few good reasons for breast feeding. Firstly, nutrition contained in breast milk is comprehensive and can satisfy the needs of infants in the first six months after birth. There are so many anti-infectants in breast milk that protect babies from infection. Fatty acid in breast milk is necessary for the healthy development of infantile brains, eyes, blood vessels. Secondly, breast milk, easy to be digested and absorbed, initiate infantile allergy hardly. On the other hand, breast feeding is benefit to parent-child relationship and the infant’s growth. Breast feeding is beneficial to mother’s health, promote uterine contraction to reduce the chance of postpartum hemorrhage. Breast feeding is conducive to reduce the possibility of mother’s pregnancy again during feeding period and the possibility of ovarian cancer and breast cancer. 　

From 2003 to 2007, the rate of total breast feeding in first four months keeps at 70-80% for straight 5 years in our city, the rate of breast feeding in first 6 months is approximately 92%. We have surpassed the target promoted by the alliance of national breast feeding action, that is, the breast feeding rate should reach 85%  in all countries around the world. Also, this is a higher rate within the country.
　　

We expect that mothers can comprehend the benefits of breast feeding and voluntarily feed their children in such a way. Furthermore, medical administrative authorities request that medical institutions and medical staff are not allowed to receive milk powder offered by producers and distributors for promoting sales and they shall curb manufacturers from utilizing all kinds of methods to promote breast milk substitutes. Medical institutions and medical staff, who have been found to violate "The breast feeding substitutes' sale management method"and publicity or provide breast feeding substitutes to pregnant women, infant's mothers or infant's family, will be punished and reported according to concrete scenario.
