From:Beijing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning

With the onset of diabetes in the urban population, the task of global chronic disease prevention is arduous. To cope with the severe challenges of increasing urban diabetes, the city officially joined the “City Changes Diabetes” plan at the end of 2017, becoming one of the project partner cities in China. Beijing’s “City Changes Diabetes” project focuses on the early prevention and treatment of high-risk groups and patients with diabetes. The Beijing Diabetes Prevention and Control Office is responsible for this project. Two community health service centers were respectively selected in Dongcheng and Tongzhou districts to carry out intervention and control studies. The “Community Diabetes Diagnosis and Treatment Outline of Beijing (2018 Edition)” was used as the basis for training guidance. The network technology platform and remote consultation model were used to establish a “hospital-community-patient” digital real-time communication and management platform to strengthen the management of patients with diabetes. For 3 years, the effectiveness of diabetes prevention and control management was evaluated in terms of awareness and management of diabetes, publicity and education on diabetes prevention, and standardized treatment and management of patients with diabetes in the community.

On June 8, 2018, the Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning organized the Beijing “City Changes Diabetes” project kick-off meeting to deploy the project work program and carried out detailed technical training. More than 30 people participated in the meeting, including leaders of Beijing Diabetes Prevention and Control Office, health and family planning commissions and community health service management centers of Dongcheng District and Tongzhou District, as well as leaders, project chiefs, and general practitioners of communities participated.
