Recently, news of a pair of 8-year-old twin sisters drowning in Qingdao swept throughout the network. The seemingly calm sea took away two young lives silently.

There are 7 signs to identify drowning. 1. The drowning person will not open his or her mouth to call for help. When drowning, the person’s mouth is in the water and he or she cannot call for help. 2. The person cannot wave for help. The drowning person usually instinctively presses the arms down so that the mouth could rise out of the water. Therefore, a drowning person cannot wave for help. 3. The drowning person usually stands upright in the water without kicking. 4. Their eyes are usually sluggish. 5. Their heads are usually in the water. 6. If it doesn't look like drowning, please ask him or her. If there is no respond and the person’s eyes are glazed, then the person needs to be rescued. 7. The person suddenly becomes quiet and silent. Children always make a lot of sounds when they are playing in the water. When the children are quiet, parents should go and see what is going on.

There are some first aid methods. The drowning person should be moved to the shore and others should call 120 immediately. When waiting for the ambulance, you can open the person’s mouth and remove the sludge and debris in the pharynx and nose. Once the person’s heart stops beating, it is necessary to take a cardiopulmonary resuscitation immediately. It is recommended to do chest compressions firstly, which requires the rescuer cross both hands and press the midpoint of the two nipples. The depth of the compressions is 5 cm and the frequency is 100-120 times / minute. The frequency of chest compressions and artificial respiration is 2 artificial respirations in every 30 times of chest compressions. Please pay attention to keep warmth of the drowning person. If the drowning person wears a jacket, take it off as soon as possible to avoid the wet clothes taking away the body heat.
