In January 2024, Beijing launched the construction of the fourth batch of health science popularization expert database. After unit recommendation, municipal review, and selection and review, the fourth batch of Beijing expert database for health science popularization was officially established. At the same time, the “Beijing Management Measures for Health Science Popularization Expert (2023 revised edition)” was published. At present, the list of experts has been announced officially through the official website of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission.

Compared with the past, the selection of health science popularization experts has been greatly optimized in terms of age structure, professional fields, science popularization awareness and other aspects. First, the structure of science popularization experts is gradually becoming more reasonable. The fourth batch of experts all hold senior professional titles, with an average age of 46.26, among which the proportion of those aged 41 to 45 has increased to 31.37%. The age structure is gradually reasonable. Second, the field of science popularization is more comprehensive. Experts in clinical and medical technology majors accounted for 86.83%, including those in internal medicine (19.38%), surgery (15.20%), and traditional Chinese medicine (9.31%). The mental health, surgery, rehabilitation, ophthalmology, nursing and other majors accounted for an even higher proportion than before. The public health majors accounted for 13.17%, including infectious diseases (3.64%), health education and health promotion (3.00%), and food nutrition and hygiene (2.03%). There has been an increase in majors such as disinfection and pest control, radiation health, environmental health, occupational health, and school health compared with the past. Third, the awareness of science popularization has been significantly enhanced. Most science popularization experts can take the initiative to establish self-media promotion platforms to carry out health communication. Up to now, a total of 3,370 original science popularization works have been submitted. 64.23% of these experts have received science popularization honors.

In recent years, relying on the construction of a Healthy Beijing, health literacy improvement has always been regarded as the primary health action, and the results have been remarkable. In 2022, the health literacy level of Beijing residents has reached 40.5%. In the next step, the Beijing Municipal Health Commission will continue to promote and publicize the construction of the fourth batch of Beijing health science expert database. Taking the selection of health science popularization experts as the starting point, various health science popularization columns and activities will be carried out to promote scientific and authoritative health science popularization knowledge, better promote the scientificity, standardization and effectiveness of health science popularization in medical and health institutions, and help build a Healthy Beijing.
