Beijing Municipal Health Commission and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Jointly Launched Grassroots Practice Project for TCM Doctoral Students

On January 15, Beijing Municipal Health Commission and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine jointly held a launch meeting for the grassroots practice project for doctoral students in traditional Chinese medicine. Director Liu Juncai and Deputy Director Wang Jianhui of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission and President Xu Anlong, Deputy President Tao Xiaohua, and Deputy Secretary Zhang Jiwang of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine attended the meeting to witness the signing of a cooperation framework agreement between the two parties. They presented the “Practice Base” plaque for the first batch of 18 community health service centers in rural areas of undertaking the grassroots practice of TCM doctoral students. Directors and deputy directors of the health commissions of 7 ecological conservation zones, heads of the first batch of 18 practice bases, and relevant leaders and doctoral supervisors of 3 clinical medical schools (Dongzhimen Hospital, Dongfang Hospital, and the Third Affiliated Hospital) affiliated to Beijing University of Chinese Medicine participated in the launch meeting with the first batch of about 200 TCM doctoral students participating in grassroots practice.

The grassroots practice project for TCM doctoral students is an important exploration based on innovating the high-level TCM talent training model and strengthening the grassroots medical and health service system and talent team building. Through the cooperation between the Beijing Municipal Health Commission and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, on the one hand, it upholds the principle of the spirit of "thesis written for the motherland", with the down-to-earth cultivation of high-level Chinese medicine talents, to guide the TCM doctoral students to go into the villages and go deep into the grassroots level, to use and improve their medical skills in practice, and enhance their patriotic spirit and their service spirit for the people. On the other hand, in terms of guiding high-level TCM talents to carry out grassroots practice, the project replenishes outstanding TCM talents for rural medical institutions, improves the level of rural medical and health services, and helps rural revitalization, to achieve the medical and health development goals of strengthening the grassroots services, benefiting the people, and increasing welfare.

President Xu Anlong emphasized in his speech that the construction of primary health service system is of great strategic significance to the realization of "Healthy China". Beijing University of Chinese Medicine undertakes the important mission of training high-level TCM talents, and also shoulders the responsibility of serving the society. He encouraged the doctoral students participating in the grassroots practice project to have high aspirations and be down-to-earth, to develop excellent skills based on patriotism, and to realize the value of youth for the earnest need of the motherland and the people.

Director Liu Juncai pointed out in his speech that the grassroots practice project for TCM doctoral students is a big and good endeavor, which is also very innovative and difficult. It will more effectively promote high-level TCM talents to understand the national conditions and public opinion, and deal with public concerns while providing inexhaustible impetus for the development of rural medical and health services. She put forward ardent expectations and specific requirements for the future arrangement of the project based on the actual work. She hopes that all the relevant parties will cooperate to bring together their wisdom and strength to jointly promote the smooth implementation of the grassroots practice project for TCM doctoral students and achieve practical results.

At the launch meeting, relevant leaders, teachers and doctoral student representatives from the Huairou District Health Commission, Xiwengzhuang Community Health Service Center of Miyun District and the First, Second and Third clinical schools of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine made speeches respectively. In the next step, the Beijing Municipal Health Commission will continue to cooperate in depth with Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and strive to find a new path that is in line with the national and market conditions and that will benefit high-level talent training and high-quality development of grassroots health and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
