In recent years, the traditional Chinese medicine system has deeply explored the essence of TCM culture, promoted the cross-border integration of TCM culture, improved the health and cultural literacy of TCM, and continuously enhanced the public's sense of access to TCM services.
1. Completed the construction of 100 TCM health and culture experience centers covering 16 districts
Based on the experience of the "Herbal Impression Hall" of the TCM theme pavilion at the 2019 Beijing World Horticultural Exposition, 100 TCM health culture experience halls were built in Beijing. In order to operate the experience center well, Beijing Administration of TCM actively integrated industry resources, established a talent team with "expert team as guidance, service team as the main body, and work team as support", constructed an incentive mechanism, and continuously optimized services. According to incomplete statistics, the centers have received more than one million visitors to experience. This year, relying on the 100 community TCM health and culture experience centers in Beijing, TCM cultural activities were simultaneously carried out across Beijing around Children's Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, Double Ninth Festival and other festivals. For example, in the Children's Day event, a "Customs Clearance Document" check-in link was designed to allow children to master TCM health and cultural knowledge in the game, and achieve education through fun. The Double Ninth Festival activity combined Double Ninth Festival culture, TCM health care knowledge with youthful memories, and guided the elderly to establish a correct lifestyle with TCM. The cumulative number of participants in the event has exceeded 100,000.
2. Create a TCM cultural brand activity matrix with “one axis and three belts”
In accordance with the unified deployment of Beijing, each district has deeply explored the cultural characteristics of TCM in the region. This year, the Ditan TCM Health Culture Festival, Pinggu Great Wall Lily TCM Health Culture Festival, Tongzhou Canal TCM Culture Festival, Shijingshan Xishan TCM Culture Festival, Fengtai Nanyuan TCM Culture Festival, the Mentougou Yongding River TCM Cultural Festival, the Changping Juyongguan Great Wall TCM Cultural Festival, and other series activities were held successfully, basically realizing "each district has its own feature and activities", forming Beijing's TCM cultural brand activity matrix with "one axis and three belts".
3. Actively promote the integration of TCM culture into campus and tourism
The work of promoting the introduction of TCM culture into schools were coordinated. Currently, TCM courses have been introduced into 982 primary and secondary schools in 16 districts of Beijing, becoming the characteristics and highlights of school-based curriculum. Beijing has compiled various reading books such as "Beijing Teenagers’ Book of TCM (Primary School Edition)", "Three Character Classic of TCM", and "Ballads of TCM for Health Preservation", which have created a demonstration effect. The Beijing School and the Tongzhou Campus of the High School Affiliated to the Renmin University have taken advantage of their geographical advantages and built 12 on-campus courses around the curriculum-driven question of "how canal TCM culture can be transformed creatively on campus" to help students form a healthy outlook on life, science and methodology. At the same time, the Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism has jointly selected five batches of 59 Beijing TCM cultural tourism demonstration bases, and launched 13 TCM health tourism routes. There are routes involving medical health culture such as the Royal Medical Center of the Forbidden City, Ditan TCM Health Culture Park, Tingli Pavilion, Xiyuan Hospital, etc., as well as routes including Guangyuyuan TCM Culture Museum, Tong Ren Tang Dashilan Old Drug Store, and the Beijing’s Expert Doctors Hall of Gulou TCM Hospital, and other museums and drug stores. The high-quality TCM health tourism products have become windows for domestic and foreign tourists to understand the cultural characteristics of Beijing’s TCM culture, learn TCM knowledge and experience TCM activities.
In the next step, the TCM system, based on the inheritance and innovation of TCM culture, will rely on the three-level communication system structure at the municipal, district and community levels to assist the construction of the three cultural belts in the capital.

1. Give full play to resource advantages and continuously improve the TCM health service system
Beijing Hepingli Hospital has been built into a regional medical service center for integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. Beijing Longfu Hospital has been transformed into a third-class geriatric hospital with integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. Beijing Gulou TCM Hospital has been transformed into a regional TCM medical center in Dongcheng District. The First People's Hospital has been transformed into a regional rehabilitation hospital with integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The "lifting and sinking" project of Dongcheng District Maternal and Child Health Hospital has been promoted. All 10 community health service centers in the district have set up comprehensive TCM service areas, TCM departments and TCM pharmacies, and were equipped with TCM equipment, to provide extensive technical services suitable for TCM. The centers actively leverage the unique role of TCM in maintaining and promoting people's health, and continuously improve the TCM health service system that integrates TCM medical services, disease prevention, chronic disease diagnosis and treatment, health care, and rehabilitation care.
2. Promote TCM culture and industry, and create the "apricot lane" project with Dongcheng characteristic
Dongcheng District, as one of the first batch of national comprehensive reform pilot areas for TCM development, has built the first TCM theme park in China, the Ditan TCM Health Culture Park, and has hosted the Ditan TCM Health Culture Festival and the Dongcheng District Paste Formula Health Festival for fifteen consecutive years. The Health Culture Festival promoted the popularization and dissemination of TCM culture. Based on the resource of the district, Dongcheng District implemented policies according to local classification and implemented the "apricot lane" project to build a multi-functional health industry cluster that carries TCM medical services, scientific research, education and training, cultural dissemination, international exchanges and industrial development. An "apricot lane" was built with "medicine, industry, school and research" characteristics in Beixinqiao Street. An "apricot lane" with "scientific and technological achievements" characteristics were created in Jingshan Street. An "apricot lane" with international medical characteristics was built in Jianguomen Street. At Donghuashi area, an "apricot lane" was created with the characteristics of dietary therapy, medicinal diet, health care and rehabilitation. An "apricot lane" with the characteristics of "Famous Medical Hall" was built in Qianmen East District.
3. Build a TCM healthy life service experience platform for the people
First, create a TCM health tourism cultural brand
Dongcheng District was awarded the first batch of "National TCM Health Tourism Demonstration Zone", and 10 units including Ditan TCM Health Culture Park, Gulou TCM Hospital Beijing Famous Medical Center, and the Medical History Museum of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences were rated as "Beijing TCM Cultural Tourism Demonstration Base”, and one unit was rated as “Beijing TCM Cultural Tourism Construction Base”. At present, six scenic spots, including the Chinese Medical History Museum of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and Researcher Tu Youyou's Studio, have been included in Beijing's premium TCM health tourism routes, providing people with a good place to experience the unique culture of TCM.
The second is to create an immersive display space for healthy TCM lifestyles.
In 2020, Beijing's first "Beijing TCM Health Culture Experience Center" will be put into use in Ditan Health Park in Dongcheng District. Currently, Dongcheng District has built 8 Beijing TCM Health and Culture Experience Centers in the famous doctor center of Beijing Gulou TCM Hospital, the Ditan Health Garden, and 6 community health service centers. In 2023, a TCM Healthy Living Department for Residents was built at the Andingmen Community Health Service Center in Dongcheng District to provide residents in the jurisdiction with a scientific, authoritative, comprehensive and convenient TCM healthy living service experience platform.
The third is to carry out the project of bringing TCM culture to campus deeply.
Dongcheng District pioneered the "June 1" Bringing TCM Culture to Campus Project in primary and secondary schools. According to the age characteristics of students at different school stages, the goals of stratified education in TCM culture were determined. Up to now, the coverage rate of TCM culture in primary and secondary schools in Dongcheng District has reached 80.5%.

The first TCM health and culture experience center No. 001 Materia Medica Elephant Hall, jointly built by the Beijing Administration of TCM and Gulou TCM Hospital, is located in the Ditan Health Garden. As an extension of the successful experience of the "Herbal Medicine Impression Hall" at the World Horticultural Exposition 2019 in Beijing, China, the pavilion displays the core sections of herbal life, herbal life, and herbal ecology, aiming to bring scientific, authoritative, and comprehensive popularization of TCM to the public. On this basis, the hospital uses the Materia Medica Elephant Hall as a window to serve public health, display the wisdom of TCM, promote cultural exchanges, and promote traditional culture, presenting a "trinity" venue construction pattern that integrates medical and health services, TCM cultural experience, and popularization of TCM.
1. Volunteer tour with TCM health service protects health
As a "demonstration base for the construction of the National Comprehensive Reform Experimental Zone for the Development of TCM", the hospitals, relying on the Gulou Qihuang Volunteer Service Team since 2010, has dispatched doctors, nurses, pharmacists, famous inheritors of TCM, and young medical workers who are party and league members as supplement every day to the workshop of Ditan Health Garden for popularization of TCM and health guidance. In 2020, No. 001 Materia Medica Elephant Hall officially opened, and free clinic activities continued.
In 2023, the hospital's innovative initiatives were re-integrated to create a series of volunteer activities with the Five Elements of TCM. Volunteers represented by TCM experts and a team of doctors provides specialist free clinics and health lectures every Monday to Friday, TCM enthusiasts including foreign friends use modern equipment to guide tourists are guided to have an interactive experience of Chinese medicine culture. Chinese medicine culture and Chinese medicine health care knowledge were broadcasted, to serve the health of the people. At the same time, the hospital launched the "Health Service Card" and built a hospital-Elephant Hall green channel for diagnosis and treatment to provide one-on-one guidance to people in need to go to the hospital for medical treatment. In July this year, there was a story that "Ditan’s first aid is guaranteed and a banner is sent to thank the medical team" happening at the Elephant Pavilion. Yang Yan, a member of the Communist Party of China and deputy chief pharmacist who is providing Q&A services on pharmaceutical matters, successfully rescued the patient with TCM acupoint massage. The family of an elderly man who lost consciousness due to heat stroke and fainted in the hospital specially made two banners to express their gratitude to the hospital and volunteers.
2. Cultural experience of TCM at Materia Medica Elephant Hall shows the quintessence of the country.
The Materia Medica Elephant Hall can not only use advanced and convenient physical fitness assessment instruments to conduct accurate physical fitness assessments, but also have zero-distance intelligent contact with the national gift of acupuncture bronze figures. Through modules such as "TCM in Time" and "Tree of Life", you can experience the wisdom of thousands of years of TCM. The hall has provided residents with personalized TCM healthy life plans online and offline to help realize humanized healthy life management and create a personalized healthy lifestyle, so as to promote the concept of "preventing disease before it starts, preventing disease from transformation, and preventing recurrence after disease" and allow the wisdom of TCM to return to daily life.
During traditional festivals that are popular with the people, the hall has carried out a variety of TCM cultural experience activities, attracting enthusiastic participation from people, allowing everyone to understand the health and cultural knowledge of TCM through subtle games and experiences. Hall 022, located in the Beijing Famous Medical Center, has become a "paradise" for children who come to seek medical treatment. Regularly held Chinese medicine education activities not only effectively alleviate the anxiety and panic of seeing a doctor, but also lead children to understand knowledge on TCM and experience TCM.
3. Popularization and promotion of TCM
The Materia Medica Elephant Hall has a rich cultural atmosphere. As an important part of the hospital's TCM culture display cluster, the Gulou Qihuang Voice Health Live Broadcast Room was also built. In June this year, the hospital and CCTV News went to the Materia Medica Elephant Hall to conduct a live broadcast of the science popularization on "Twenty-Four Solar Terms - Summer Solstice". While feeling the fragrance of the medicine in the hall, the audience listened to the medical staff's explanation of health care on summer solstice. The hall has received "This is Beijing" column from Beijing News Channel of Beijing TV. It has jointly created the popularization show of health knowledge with the Beijing Daily's "Doctors Talking about Medicine", and has produced a total of 125 video series through various media and conducted 10 live broadcasts.
Beijing Gulou TCM Hospital takes root at the grassroots level and uses the Materia Medica Elephant Hall as an important platform to serve the society, serve the public, and promote the culture of TCM. It uses practical actions to promote the cultural connotation of TCM, advocate the concept of TCM health care, and demonstrate the infinite charm of Chinese quintessence of TCM.
