The First Batch of Chinese Medical Team Assisting Vanuatu Sent by Beijing Arrived in Destination

On September 12, during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, the first batch of Chinese medical teams assisting Vanuatu set up by Beijing left for the destination to perform a one-year foreign medical aid mission.

Gao Jian, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, was entrusted by Secretary Zhong Dongbo, expressed their sincere hope. They hoped that everyone would continue to carry forward the spirit of the foreign aid medical team, give full play to the role of the temporary party branch of the medical team as a fighting fortress and the vanguard and exemplary role for party members, and complete various foreign aid tasks safely and smoothly.

On September 14, Beijing time, all the team members successfully arrived at Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, after a long journey of nearly 48 hours. The person in charge of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Vanuatu and representatives of the Vanuatu Ministry of Health greeted the team at the airport.

In November 2021, the National Health Commission sent a letter to the Beijing Municipal Government, requesting Beijing to undertake the dispatch of the first batch of medical teams assisting Vanuatu in view of the outstanding achievements and rich experience in dispatching foreign aid medical teams of Beijing. The municipal government attached great importance to it and invited the Municipal Health Commission to organize relevant work. The Municipal Health Commission overcame the impact of the epidemic and set up the medical team as soon as possible. The commission has also arranged 3 months of full-time English and comprehensive training for the medical team from May to August 2022, finishing the preparation work smoothly before the trip.

The first batch of 9 members of the medical team were dispatched by Beijing Shijitan Hospital, with an average age of 43.8 years, including 1 full-time team leader, as well as experts specialized in urology, cardiology, respiratory medicine, stomatology, general surgery, anesthesiology, traditional Chinese medicine and other key points subject. They will be committed to providing medical and health services in Vanuatu, enhancing the capabilities of local key disciplines, and assisting in cultivating key medical talents.
