Voluntary blood donation by citizens is the only source of blood for clinical patients. In 2019, Beijing's total blood collection was 671,000 units, of which 75.5%, 422,000 units, were collected from street blood donation sites. 144,000 units were donated by groups, accounting for 21.4% of the city's total blood collection. Another small amount of blood comes from interprovincial adjustments.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, the number of people on the street in our city has decreased significantly, and the amount of blood collected on the street has dropped significantly. The average daily blood collection is less than one-third of the average amount in the same period last year. However, the rigid demand of blood still exists. It is difficult to meet the blood needs of clinical patients. In order to ensure the health and safety of the people, Beijing has urgently activated the blood early warning mechanism. The municipal SASAC, the municipal committee of Chinese Communist Youth League, the municipal education committee, the municipal Red Cross, and other institutions and enterprises and institutions have actively organized cadres and staff, youth league members, and volunteers to donate blood voluntarily.
With the recent increase in the number of people returning to Beijing, the amount of diagnosis and treatment in various medical institutions has gradually increased, and the demand for blood has continued to increase. The treatment of patients with malignant tumors, blood diseases and traumatic emergencies, as well as high-risk pregnant women needs blood supply. There is still a large gap between the amount of blood collected and the need for clinical blood. It is hoped that more citizens join the team of voluntary blood donation to dedicate love and save lives.
In order to ensure the safety of blood donation by citizens, during the prevention and control of the epidemic, the blood donation sites in our city improved the health consultation and temperature monitoring of blood donors immediately in accordance with the requirements of the National Health Commission. If you have fever, dry cough or other symptoms, have been to areas with high incidence of epidemics, or contact with confirmed or suspected cases, etc., your blood donation should be suspended for 4 weeks. Blood stations in our city have also strengthened the prevention and control of epidemic in blood donation. Each blood donation site is disinfected regularly every day. Face masks are distributed to donors free of charge. Appointments are used to collect blood in batches or periods. Donators should be wearing masks during blood donation to ensure health and safety of blood donators and users.
Citizens are welcomed to extend a loving hand and join the blood donation.
