Cai Hongxia takes care of young patients like a mother
Cai Hongxia has been working in psychiatric nursing positions for 35 years. During this period, she had more than 10 opportunities to change to another position or enter the government, but she refused the changes initiatively. Mental patients have distorted thinking and emotional behavior changes. On one occasion, when Cai Hongxia was alone in the ward, a young male patient suddenly rushed up, slammed her on the table, seizing her hair and slamming her head on the table until the other staff arrived. When her husband knows the accident, he wanted to do something back. However, Cai Hongxia said, "Don't care about the patients’ fault. In fact, they are very painful and they cannot control themselves."
She cares for each patient as close as possible with great love.
Cai Hongxia feeds the patient, helps them to dress, cleans their body, and even cleans their excrement, but she never complain.
"Psychotic patients are also human beings. Since they have been sent to the hospital, we should take the trust and responsibility." On the Chinese New Year's Eve in 1995, an orphan with psychiatric disorders was sent to the hospital. It happened that Cai Hongxia went to the department to check the wards. She saw that the child’s clothes were very dirty. The orphan looked at her helplessly with a pair of demented eyes. She quickly found a hair clip to give the child a haircut, help the kid to put on a hospital gown. The next day is the Spring Festival, considering that the child’s hair was cut and it was easy to catch cold, she found an open store and bought a hat. When she sent the hat to the ward and put it on the child's head, the child who was just stalking in the ward became quiet suddenly. Some mental patients are unwilling to take medicine or spit medicine out. In response to this situation, Cai Hongxia asked all nursing staff to "send medicine to the patients and watch them to take the medicine before leaving". The careful help of her helped a lot of patients to turn over a new leaf of their life.
She strives to expand the achievements in the field of spiritual rehabilitation.

She took the lead in exploring a variety of auxiliary rehabilitation activities such as handicraft, pottery, calligraphy, painting and dance according to the interests of patients. These ideas opened the door to the mind and heart of the patients. In July, 2011, the cross-stitch work of rehabilitation patients won the first prize of the “National Handicraft Competition for Mental Patients”. In October, 2012, Cai Hongxia led the rehabilitation patients to participate in the third Beijing Skills Competition for Mental Rehabilitation Patients and got the best total score. Up to now, the recreational treatment center has helped nearly 7,000 patients recover.
